How to reduce electricity bill?

By on 1:28 PM

Don't get shocked seeing your electricity bill. Here are some of the tips to reduce your electricity bill. If you look at your daily routine you will find many small things that you can do to save energy. Some well proven energy saving tips are given below

  • TURN OFF everything when not in use – lights, ceiling fans, TVs, computers, exhaust fans etc.

  • Always buy high EER (Energy Efficient Ratio) Air conditioners with 5 star rating. This rating ensures high efficiency of your ACs and better performance.

  • Always use your air conditioner within normal room temperatures (24oC – 25oC). Lower temperatures use significantly more energy.

  • Check you air conditioner filter every month. Dirty filters can block air flow through the cooling system and increase energy use.

  • Use Fans as far as possible as they use less energy than the air conditioners.

  • Only heat or cool the rooms you need. Close all the vents and doors of unused rooms.

  • Seal and weather strip your windows and doors to ensure that you are not wasting energy on heating or cooling through leaks.

  • During hot months, keep window coverings closed on the south, east and west side if you are in Northern Hemisphere and keep window coverings closed on the north, east and west side if you are in the Southern Hemisphere.

  • Activate “SLEEP” feature on the computer and office equipment that will automatically power down when not in use.

  • Avoid using “Geyser” continuously for hours. If you have big family, put the heater ON well in advance and stop after 20 minutes. Take shower bath one after the other immediately, you can still get hot water upto the last person, instead of putting ON the heater again.

  • Better to shift for Solar water heater for efficient heating.

  • Ensure proper insulation of your Geyser to keep the heat from escaping.

  • Use “Washing machine” once in a week and wash all your clothes at a time, it will save your time and money as well. Always run washing machine using “COLD WATER”. Don’t use drier unless needed.

  • Always use energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. Even though they are costlier than normal tube lights and bulbs, their performance and durability is very high compared to others.

  • Don’t use IRON box unless very urgent.

  • Always buy 5 star appliances

That's all
